If there is an employees' manual, check the section on vacation benefits. It probably says you earn a certain number of vacation days (or hours) for each month you work. In this case, you would have only earned about half a year's vacation. However, it may say that you are entitled to a year's vacation on the anniversary of your hire-date or at the beginning of the calendar year. In this case, you should receive pay for any unused days. If it was a very small business with no formal written policy, you are probably stuck with whatever the family decides.
