Keep your dog on a high quality diet (Science Diet - Nutro - etc) for the rest of it's life. No buying whatever is on sale. No table scraps. Keep it on the SAME food. For a very occasional treat, mix some very well done hamburger with some plain white rice. A cup of rice to a 1/4 cup hamburger.
