Assuming the snapping is a puppy-style snap and not an I-want-to-kill-you snap, you can say NO in a command tone and you can yelp when nipped. Yelping almost always causes them to ease up, they still "bite" but it is much more gentle. Puppies also bite because they are teething and their teeth hurt. When the snapping or nipping starts, say no and then give your dog something acceptable to bite and chew. And, at this age, your dog needs to be socialized (exposed to lots of people, kids, adults, other dogs, other animals). The local petsore has cheap obedience classes, please attend one. Pitbull owners need to be especially careful with their dogs, not because pitbulls are inherently vicious (no breed is inherently vicious), but because pitbulls have bad public relations working against them and people will over-react.
