Origin
Renee is the female form of René, the extra –e making it feminine according to French grammar.[2] The name René is the French form of the late Roman name Renatus and the meaning is reborn or born again. For example: Rennisance or Renalt. In medieval times, the meaning was associated with the Christian concept of being spiritually born again through baptism. It consequently became popular among the early Christians in Ancient Rome and it was born by several saints, including René Goupil.[3]
Its name days are January 23 (Estonia), October 18 (Poland), October 19 (France), November 7 (Slovakia) and November 28 (Czech Republic).[4]
Renee was among the top 100 names given to girls in the United States in the late 1950s, the 1960s, the 1970s and the early 1980s.[5]
