Rolo original chocolate coated caramels, as sold in the UK (September 2006)

Rolo (pronounced "Roll-Oh" in the U.S. or "Roh-loh" in the U.K.) is a brand of truncated-cone-shaped chocolates with a caramel centre. They are made by Nestlé, except in the United States where the rights have been held by The Hershey Company since 1969. They were advertised for many years with the slogan "Do you love anyone enough to give them your last Rolo?".

History

In the UK, they are made at Fawdon in Tyneside by Nestlé Rowntree. They were first made originally in 1937 by Rowntrees in York.[1] Mackintosh toffee was coated with chocolate. There have now been Rolo cookies, ice-cream, muffins, birthday cake, desserts, cake bars, mini Rolos, big Rolos, (all of which use exactly the same type of caramel) yogurts and Easter eggs made.

Cultural references

Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, from Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, included a Rolo jingle skit on their show, where they were working on a new jingle for Rolos: "Rolo Tony Brown Town."[2] The end of the episode featured an original theme song for Rolos.[3]
