SambandhaSanskrit term, meaning «relationship». It is one of the concepts in the Sanskrit grammar, which is mentioned in the «Mahabhashya» of Patanjali Sambandha-jnana «knowledge of the relationship» is also one of the three key concepts in the Gaudiya Vaishnava theology. In the context of this tradition of Hinduism sambandha-jnana means knowledge on the relationship between Almighty God Krishna, the energy «Shakti», jiva and the world. Accordingly, sambandha-jnana includes knowledge of the three tattvas or truths: Krishna-tattva, Shakti-tattva and jiva-tattva.

Sambandha in Gaudiya Vaishnavism is the relationship between Krishna, Jiva and the material. All jivas eternally and inextricably linked with Krishna, who is the true object relations. In a perfect level Bhakti occur jivas special relationship with Krishna in one of the rasas: his servant, friend, parent and lover. The basic relationship between Krishna and a jiva is the attitude of a servant. By sadhana, which includes a repetition of Names of Lord Krishna (kirtan and japa), frees man from Maya and awakens in the heart his attachment to Krishna, and give him the situation of servants in their relations with him.

In Vedic literature refers to the eternal relationship Jiva with Krishna. Information on this relationship is called sambanda. Understanding of the relationship and the subsequent action on the basis of this understanding is called abhidheya. Reaching Prema, or pure love of Krishna and return the spiritual world, in the company of Krishna and his associates - is the ultimate goal of life, which is called prayojana.

In the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition Sanatana Goswami is considered to be the Acharya of sambandha-jnana. The deity of Madan Mohan, installed by Sanatana in Vrindavan is associated with sambandha. It is believed that it helps to overcome the influence of material desires and to focus on the devotional service to Krishna.
