It's a green world for Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile (SQM). The company produces specialty fertilizers, iodine, and lithium, primarily in the Americas (about two-thirds of sales). SQM's specialty fertilizers account for more than half of sales; the company is also one of the world's largest producers of iodine, which is used in medical, agricultural, and industrial applications. Its lithium products are used in ceramics, glass, aluminum, lubricants, and batteries. It also makes other industrial chemicals (sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate, boric acid). SQM has customers in more than 100 countries and generates most of its sales outside Chile. PotashCorp owns about 30% of SQM.
