Casey Stoney
Casey Stoney (born 13 May 1982) is a footballer, currently playing for Chelsea Ladies.
Club career
She may still only be young but Casey already has plenty of winners' medals to her name having played for Arsenal and later for Charlton Athletic.
Casey joined Charlton Athletic in the Summer of 2002 in the hope of gaining regular first-team football, which she has to good effect. She also enrolled at The FA's national football academy – The FA National Player Development Centre at Loughborough University – to combine her studies with a football scholarship.
She has led Charlton to success in The FA Nationwide Premier League Cup in March 2004, The FA Women's Cup in May 2005 as Charlton beat Everton 1-0 and most recently the 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the 2006 FA Nationwide Women's Premier League Cup.
In July 2007 she signed with Chelsea ladies along with Charlton teammate Eniola Aluko.
Club closure
Angry at the closure of the women's section, Stoney said: "I'm disgusted with the club - the men get relegated and we get punished."
"The club's only trophies in recent years have been won by the women's team - and in the last four seasons we were the only side apart from Arsenal to win major honours.
"Seven weeks ago we played in front of a record crowd at the FA Cup final - that's now our last match and I'm totally gutted for everyone involved on the women's side.
"I just hope that what has happened to us doesn't reverberate around the women's game - otherwise it will be in serious trouble."
International career
Casey was a member of the talented England U18 squad alongside the likes of Katie Chapman and Rachel Unitt. She immediately made the step-up to regular England squad member and has already broke through the 30 caps barrier.
Casey's first and only goal for the senior squad came in the 4-0 victory over Portugal in the Algarve Cup in March 2005, a crisp half volley that marks her out as a danger attacking set pieces.
