∙ 13y agoIs a game in the Call of Duty series and has become very popular since it's release in November 2007. The sequel Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was released in November 2009. The majority of the game is set in "the When_is_Call_of_Duty_4_set" (or maybe a year or two in the future). The levels "All Ghillied Up" and "One Shot, One Kill" are set in Pripyat, Ukraine, in the early 1990s (15 years before "the present"). That would make it around 5 - 8 years after Chernobyl went up in 1986.
As to *where* it is set, it ranges from the Bering Sea to Azerbaijan (and Pripyat, Ukraine). A lot of the action also takes place in "A Middle-Eastern Country". According to the maps, this would be Saudi Arabia. At least, the initial invasion in the "Charlie Don't Surf" level seems to be hitting Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia. Later, however, the action (and the "big surprise" which I won't spoil :) ) seems to occur around Basrah, Iraq.
It's conceivable that the setting involves an Islamist revolution in Saudi Arabia, overthrowing the Saud family (represented by the fictional "President al-Fulani"), with a subsequent invasion of Kuwait and southern Iraq.
