Formerly operating in paper, sugar, timber, telephone systems, and railroads, St. Joe is a Florida real estate developer and one of the state's largest private landowners. It holds some 576,000 acres mostly in northwest Florida, nearly half of which run near the Gulf of Mexico. The company is primarily engaged in developing residential resorts and towns, commerce parks, and rural property sales. Some 70% of its land holdings are within 15 miles of the Gulf of Mexico. St. Joe also operates a forestry segment, which grows, harvests, and sells timber and wood fiber.
