Etymology

Trevor can be a given name or surname of Welsh descent (as a given name Trefor in welsh): also a habitational name from any of the numerous places in Wales, in particular the one near Llangollen, from the Welsh tre(f), meaning "homestead", or "settlement" and a form of mawr, meaning "large".

Trevor is also a name of Irish descent. It is a reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Treabhair, (descendant of Treabhar), a byname meaning "industrious", "tight", or "prudent"

A short film called Trevor received honorable mention at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival and won Best Live Action Short Film at the 67th Academy Awards. It also inspired The Trevor Project.

The Trevor dynasty have for centuries been associated with the Llangollen and Chirk areas in Denbighshire, north-east Wales:
