Wakeman is a village in Huron
County, Ohio, United States, along the
Vermilion River and is a named after Jesup Wakeman, a resident of Fairfield
County, Connecticut, who was involved in western land speculation between 1800 and 1840. The population was 951 at the
2000 census.
Wakeman is served by a branch of the Willard Memorial Library.
Geography
Wakeman is located at 41°15′17″N, 82°24′14″W (41.254702,

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total
area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²), all land.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 951 people, 359 households, and 268 families residing in the
village. The population density was 459.0/km² (1,195.9/mi²). There were 374 housing
units at an average density of 180.5/km² (470.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.05% White, 0.32% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.95% of the population.
There were 359 households out of which 39.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.7% were married couples living together, 10.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.1% were
non-families. 20.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or
older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the village the population was spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 23.3%
from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.7
males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.5 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $50,125, and the median income for a family was $55,500. Males had a
median income of $36,458 versus $24,028 for females. The per capita income for the
village was $18,559. About 1.1% of families and 3.2% of the population were below the poverty
line, including 0.8% of those under age 18 and 5.8% of those age 65 or over.
