Alcove (through the Spanish, alcoba, from the Arabic, al-, the, and qubbah,(القبة) a vault) is an architectural term for a recess in a room, usually screened off by pillars, balustrade or drapery.

Usage : Though their apartment lacked a dining room, an alcove adjacent to the living room made for an adequate ambience for dinner.
