15 Greatest Goofs from The Princess Bride
'The Princess Bride' is a cult classic and one of the greatest films of its time. Even some of the best movies, however, have a few mistakes if you look closely.
In the conversation between Buttercup and the Man in Black, you can see some houses in the background. If you look closely, you'll notice that the houses are modern and don't fit the time period.
Talking Without Moving Lips
There are at least two scenes where you can hear characters speak, but their lips don't move. One is when Fezzik and the Man in Black are fighting, and the other is when Inigo says, 'I'll say.'
Tech Guy in the Shot
During the scene where Westley fights the rodents of unusual size (the R.O.U.S.), you can see a tech guy walk in and out of the scene. Look near the tree to spot him.
Fezzik leans Westley on the castle wall after he endures the torture device. The wall moves slightly when he does this.
A Dummy Mistake
Westley, Fezzik, and Inigo storm the gates, and Fezzik catches on fire. However, it's clear in multiple shots that the person on fire is actually a dummy used for the stunt.
Westley's Dental Work
Westley screams loudly while he is on the torture device. His teeth clearly have silver fillings, though these are modern dental treatments.
The grandfather telling the story clearly has his tie on incorrectly in some scenes. The large end is on backwards, and the small end is on top. In other scenes, however, it's correct.
The Man in Black knocks Fezzik out, but there's a rock in the way when he tries to roll him over. In the next shot, though, the rock is moved.
In the grandson's bedroom, toys and other items move from one shot to the next. Some notable ones are the toy car and action figures in the room.
Mustache Grooming Habits Change
Westley's iconic mustache changes many times during the film. Sometimes it's neatly groomed, sometimes one side is longer than the other, and sometimes the entire mustache has lengthened in size.
Toward the beginning of the film, Westley wears gloves as the Man in Black just before he rolls down the hill. However, the gloves disappear after he rolls down the hill, though they don't fall off like his bandanna and mask.
During this same scene, Buttercup rolls down the hill after Westley. Her sash clearly falls off, yet it's shown in the next scene tied around her waist.
After the sandpit sucks Buttercup in, you can see leaves scattered across the top. Just before Westley jumps in after her, however, the leaves are missing.
The R.O.U.S. Fixes His Costume
During the scene where Westley fights the R.O.U.S., he punches the rodent. You can then see the R.O.U.S. fix his own headpiece.
Landing Pad Is Visible
During some stunt scenes, a landing pad is visible in shots. You can see it in several different fight scenes.
