Then and Now: The Cast of 'House Calls'
Learn more about what happened with the cast of the 1980s sitcom 'House Calls' after the show ended.
Wayne Rogers Then
Rogers played one of the show's main protagonists, Dr. Charley Michaels, and was the focus of the show after Lynn Redgrave was fired. This was one of Rogers' first starring roles; he'd previously appeared in 'M*A*S*H.'
Wayne Rogers Now
Though he was a successful actor, Rogers amassed a significant amount of personal wealth thanks to a second career as an investor and business manager. His last acting credit was 2003's 'Nobody Knows Anything!'
Lynn Redgrave Then
Though she was ostensibly one of the stars of the show as hospital administrator Ann Atkinson, Redgrave was fired from the show after giving birth, largely because her desire to breast feed her baby daughter while working on the show was viewed negatively by her bosses. Redgrave unsuccessfully tried to sue and get her job back, and the show was cancelled shortly after her 1981 departure.
Lynn Redgrave Now
Redgrave was a member of the Redgrave acting family, and she enjoyed great success before her 2010 death at age 67. Her last acting credit was a 2009 episode of 'Ugly Betty.'
Ray Buktenica Then
The second most prolific actor on the show, Buktencia is credited in all 57 episodes as friendly Dr. Solomon. He'd previously found success in classic TV shows including 'Rhoda' and 'Hawaii Five-O.'
Ray Buktenica Now
After ending his relationship with 1970s TV star Joyce DeWitt, Buktencia has largely lived out of the public eye, though he has had a prolific acting career. His most recent screen appearance was a role as a psychologist in the Steve-Martin-directed 'Shopgirl' in 2005.
Sharon Gless Then
Gless joined the cast as the token woman character after Redgrave was fired. Unfortunately, the showrunners didn't handle the transition from one actress to another very well, and Gless only got to play Jane Jeffries for 15 episodes before the show was cancelled.
Sharon Gless Now
Fortunately for Gless, her career rebounded in a big way after 'House Calls' was cancelled, and she quickly found success as a title character on 'Cagney and Lacey.' She's worked steadily ever since, including big parts on recent shows such as 'Nip/Tuck' and 'Burn Notice.'
