Azare is a town in Bauchi State, Nigeria.

Geography

Azare is located at 11°40′27″N 10°11′28″E / 11.67417°N 10.19111°E / 11.67417; 10.19111Coordinates: 11°40′27″N 10°11′28″E / 11.67417°N 10.19111°E / 11.67417; 10.19111, at an elevation of 436 meters.[1]

It the largest of several nearby towns in the region including Jemma, Disina, Faggo, Foggo, Zadawa, and Madara. Azare is home to the Federal Government College Azare.[2] Azare Airstrip lies about 10 km southeast of the town.

Demographics

The population has grown from 69,035 as of the 1991 census to its 2007 estimated value of 110,452.[3]

The people of Azare of predominantly Muslim, and are primarily of Hausa, Fulani, and Beriberi descent. The town's primary economic activity is agriculture. The first recorded case of lung cancer was found here. [4]
