Ramachandra Gangadhar Battu (1927 July 4 - 1994) was Principal of the Government Pharmacy College, Bangalore beginning 1966 till he retired from there. The Government Pharmacy college was the first of its kind in Bangalore city under the able guidance of Principal Battu.

Career

R. G. Battu was born and raised in Gokarna to a Havyaka brahmin family. He attended his primary school in Gokarna and high school (1946-47) from the A. H. School, Bankikodla. After completing his B.Sc., degree in chemistry from the Karnatak College Dharwar, he attended the Mumbai University Institute of Chemical Technology to earn his B.Sc.,(Tech.) degree. In 1965, Battu received his Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy from the University of Rhode Island, USA. Ram Battu was author of many research papers in his field of research. He was an able teacher and an administrator; under his guidance, the government college of pharmacy, Bangalore had its greatest developments in the field during the time India was an underdeveloped country.
