1. South Africa (Western Cape): formerly Hardekraaltje 'Hard Ground' and then Twaalfde Mylpaal 'Twelfth Mile Stone' to indicate its distance from Cape Town along the railway. It was renamed again in 1861 after Charles Bell, surveyor general of the Cape (1848–72).
2. USA (Texas): named after Thomas Bell who donated land for the site.
