In general, to call one out to answer for something, 68 A. 210, 214; "a request to fight a duel." "In a legal sense an objection or exception calling into question the capability of a person for a particular function, the existence of a right, or the sufficiency or validity of an instrument." 14 C.J.S. 350.

An objection by a party or the party's lawyer to the inclusion of a particular prospective juror as a member of the jury that is to hear that party's cause or trial, with the result that the prospective juror is disqualified from the case. See voir dire.

challenge for cause a request to a judge that a prospective juror not be allowed to serve on the jury for some specific cause or reason, e.g., he is not qualified under the provisions of a statute. 118 S.W. 612, 615.

challenge to jury array a formal objection to the entire panel of grand jurors. 621 F. 2d. 951. The basis of such a challenge is that something has been done or omitted to the prejudice of the substantial rights of the challenging party. 337 F. Supp. 140.

general challenge a type of challenge for cause based on grounds from which, if shown to exist, the disqualification of the juror follows as a legal conclusion. 98 U.S. 145, 155. Known as challenge for principal cause at common law.

peremptory challenge challenges which may be made without any specific reason or cause. 380 U.S. 202, 212. The right to a peremptory challenge is not intended to enable a party to select particular jurors but to exclude from the jury persons whom he is unable successfully to challenge for cause. 403 F. 2d. 528, 530. The number of peremptory challenges allowed is usually prescribed by statute or court rule. E.g., Fed. R. Crim. P. 24. If a specific reason exists why a particular juror may not fairly decide a matter, the juror may be challenged for cause. This conserves the peremptory challenges. These challenges are also available to the government.

Challenge is a United Kingdom digital TV channel owned by Virgin Media Television. It was originally called The Family Channel from 1 September 1993 to 31 January 1997 but it was later re-branded as Challenge TV from 1 February 1997. On 20 May 2002 the channel was re-named again but this time it was just Challenge? and 30 June 2003 the question mark was removed to leave the Challenge name in its place.

The channel shows mostly gameshows and quiz programmes taken from a variety of terrestrial and digital channel archives. Most are repeats of programmes acquired from terrestrial channel archives, but a few are original productions commissioned by Challenge itself.

The channel also has interactive features for digital cable and satellite viewers watching certain shows, enabling them to play along at home. The service also offers a large selection of games and competitions.

The channel only aired programmes in the letterbox format (4:3) but on the 3 June 2008 it switched to the widescreen format (16:9) along with all other Virgin Media Television channels. This was coupled with a revamped logo.
