Genus of trees in the family Cupressaceae; the leaves contain isocupressic acid, and when fed to pregnant cattle cause abortion. The aborted fetus has a typical leukoencephalomalacia. Includes C. macrocarpa, C. sempervirens. Called also cypress (Monterey cypress).
