If you find that you're continuously lying awake at night thinking about things other than winding down, it may be time to look into some tips for helping you learn how to fall asleep fast. Many people suffer from not getting enough sleep due to many causes such as stress, restlessness, a bad day at the office, and so on. If you're having trouble falling asleep fast at night and staying there, these tips may be of great use to you.

Remove Distractions

Many times, people find it hard to fall asleep fast due to too many distractions in the room. A couple of examples may be a light being on, the TV running, or a cell phone buzzing. The first step in getting to sleep fast is eliminating these distractions. Turn off any lights, disable any sound, turn a fan on to drown out sounds you can't control, etc.

Begin Winding Down 3 Hours Before Bed

The reason you may have trouble getting to sleep could be from not settling your body down enough in the few hours before bed. Instead of working or playing video games, try to keep everything you do simple and effortless. You can read a book, indulge in a bubble bath, listen to music, and so on. There are tons of things that you can do to help settle your mind after a long day in preparation for going to sleep.

Make sure that you avoid exercise or intense activity as well! Being very active near bed time can leave you feeling pumped up when you're really trying to settle down and get sleepy.

Count Sheep

Counting sheep is one of the best ways to get a restless person to sleep fast as well. To count sheep, close your eyes and imagine sheep jumping over a fence, one by one. While working through this technique, be sure to keep your eyes closed. Even if you decide that counting sheep is not working, keep your eyes closed anyway to help your chances of inducing sleep even more. Try to avoid tossing and turning, and work to find that comfortable spot that can allow you to relax.
