How To Play Texas Hold'em Poker

Professional poker player betting everything on one hand

Texas Hold'em poker is a craze that is sweeping the nation. With the World Series of Poker and other tours featured on TV, people are starting to get interested in poker. The Texas Hold'em variety is gaining the most attention because of its fast pace and the excitement associated with it.

Goal of the game

The goal of Texas Hold'em is the same as all other poker games. It is to get the best hand using five cards out of the seven possible. The lowest hand is a pair, which is two of a kind. The best hand is a royal flush, which is ten through ace, all of the same suit.

Playing the game

With Texas Hold'em, all players are dealt two cards that only they can see. They place their initial bets based on these two cards. After these bets are placed, the dealer produces the flop. This is three cards that are placed in the center of the table, face up. Players combine their cards with the flop cards to see the best five-card hand they can make. Bets are placed again, based on these cards. Next up is the turn. This is the fourth card dealt face up on the table. More betting occurs, and then the fifth card, or the river, is turned over. Players are now making bets on the best five-card hand they have based on the five cards on the table and the two cards in their hand. The player with the best hand wins the pot, or all of the money that was bet throughout the play.

One should place a bet based on one's hand and what other players may possibly have based on the cards that are showing.

Texas Hold'em is an exciting and fun way to spend time. After some practice, it is easier to understand and get a feel for how to win.
