How To Tell If A Toe Is Broken

x-ray of foot

Determining whether a toe is broken or simply sprained is crucial for medical and health purposes. Not finding the reason for the pain in your toes, big or small, is detrimental towards moving around and having a great time.

Swelling indicates a broken bone

If you experience a vast amount of swelling with your toe, this is a strong indicator that the toe is broken. An ample amount of swelling shows signs of a fracture; seek medical attention immediately.

Consider any signs of swelling a priority for a doctor to look at.

Discoloration hints of a broken toe

If an incredibly noticeable change in color is occurring with your recent toe injury, chances are a fracture has taken place. Keep a keen eye out for any tone differences or if the injury is much brighter red than usual.

Compare feet with toes; is there a noticeable color difference?

Severe pain symptoms while walking

If it is absolutely excruciating to move simply a few feet, this is a bad sign of fractured bones in your toe. While one-fourth of the bones in your body reside in the feet, the toe is normally strong enough to endure a vigorous length of miles while you walk. If this is not the case, get it checked out immediately by a professional.

Walk a few laps around a short region. If the pain is unbearable, you are out of luck.

More than two to three days indicates something is wrong

As the old saying goes, only time can tell. After two or three days have passed and the intense pain, discoloration and swelling has not settled down, it is time to see a professional.

Waiting it out does not always make for the best idea. If you can get help through easy access, do so.

It is not the end of the world to have a broken toe. Distinguishing the symptoms of a broken toe are the first steps towards a healthy and happy recovery. Keep a close eye on where and how you walk.
