Which Foods Cause Constipation?

Constipation is a common problem among men and women of all ages. Those who suffer from this complication regularly know how uncomfortable it can feel and are often searching for ways to get relief. The easiest way to deal with constipation is by preventing it in the first place. The best way to do that is by avoiding these common foods that cause constipation.

Red meat

Most people eat red meat because it is tasty and high in protein; however, meat that is cooked is terribly hard to digest, especially when it is not chewed properly. Constipation is curbed when you reduce your consumption of beef and pork. At the very least, if you do eat meat, take the time to chew it very well before swallowing.

Sugary baked goods

Cakes, cookies, pies and crackers all have a high fat and sugar content. They are also very low in fiber, so they tend to slow the digestive system down.

If you find yourself feeling constipated after a large meal containing red meat or sweet goods, balance this out with some fiber-packed vegetables to get things moving again.

Dairy

Dairy products such as cheese and ice cream are notorious for causing constipation. They are low in fiber and high in fat just as sweets and meats. High fat dairy products are also bad for the heart, so eating them in moderation is a great idea.

Anything processed

Anything processed contains preservatives and very little fiber. People who regularly suffer constipation should aim to eat as naturally as possible, concentrating on fruits and vegetables which are high in fiber and low in fat.

Constipation is uncomfortable to deal with; however, with some careful attention to diet you can curb the problem before it starts. Placing the focus on fruits and veggies does the body a lot of good.
