The Xbox 360 is one of the fastest selling console systems of all time since its release in 2004. Good games, great graphics and reliability propelled it to the top ranks of home video gaming, and even today, it remains one of the best selling. Many options exist for purchasing a system, and wading through the choices is not difficult.
Wal-mart, Target and other major retailers present the largest outlet for Xbox gaming, and for good reason. They almost always have the newest systems and games, plus many accessories; however, getting any kind of deal on an Xbox 360 is almost impossible and staff can answer few, if any, questions on the system.
Specialty retailers like computer stores, Radio Shack and Gamestop give you a better chance for a bargain, and some also have access to used gaming systems, a plus for the economically-minded. A used gaming system, especially one backed by a warranty, might save $50 or $100 over a new one, and function just as well. Also, used games are really a plus; once that plastic wrap comes off, no difference exists between a new or used game.
The final choice probably gives you the largest number of Xbox 360 consoles available. Hundreds of thousands of systems are found with a few mouse clicks. Used systems, modded systems, outdated, broken or even parts are available, and real bargains are ready for you to snap them up. Unfortunately, a few unscrupulous sellers pass off broken or disabled systems, and as a buyer, you pay the penalty. Warranties and refunds get bogged down more often online, although eBay is helpful in that regard.
Like anything, getting a good deal on an Xbox 360 depends on your willingness to take a risk. To get the best bargain, buy online or go to a specialty store.
