The Village
Hungarton (or Hungerton) is a small village in the county of Leicestershire, England. It is located approximately 10 miles (16 km) from the city of Leicester. The name Hungarton is believed to have come from the Old English "Hungry tun" meaning Hungry town, it was called this because the quality of the soil in the area was so poor.
The layout of the village of Hungarton follows that of the model village that was built between 1764 and 1776 by a man called Shuckbrugh Ashby. There are a few cottages that pre-date these houses and many houses have been built since.
The village has a church, a village hall, a small stream and a Millennium Green. It also has a pub called "The Black Boy".
The Parish
The Parish of Hungarton covers over 4,000 acres (16 km²) of land in rural Leicestershire. The parish comprises three estates of Quenby, Baggrave and Ingarsby as well as the village of Hungarton.
