Landscape architect who emigrated from Denmark to Chicago in the late 1800s and is the father of today's Prairie Style of landscaping. Along with Thomas Church, he was one of the first landscape architects to promote the use of native plants, in his case the prairie grasses and plants of his adopted Midwestern region.
