WHO MAY ENTER

The Answers.com Creative Writing Challenge is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec) who are over the age of 18. While residents of other jurisdictions ages 18 and up are welcome to participate in the Challenge, unfortunately, due to complexities involved in contest and sweepstakes laws of foreign jurisdictions, Answers.com cannot offer the prize gift certificate (see below) to these entrants, although Hall of Fame recognition (see below) will still be extended. Children under the age of 18 may have their parents or legal guardians submit entries on their behalf.

Employees of Answers.com and its affiliates and their respective advertising, promotion and production agencies, their immediate families and those living in their households are not eligible to enter. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law. Subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws.

HOW TO ENTER

• Go to our Creative Writing Challenge page for the official word list.
• Write an original composition (no more than 750 words) in any literary genre. In order to win, the composition must include all of the words and phrases listed for the challenge. Each word/phrase must be used properly and hyperlinked to the Answers.com entry for that particular word/phrase.
• Post your original composition on a blog or website.
• Complete all information required on the entry form. Entries will be deemed void if incomplete, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error, or obtained through fraud or theft. No other method of entry will be accepted.

Answers.com shall not be liable for delivery failures caused by telephone, program networks, Internet or computer delays, deletions or interruptions. Answers.com also does not accept liability for submissions that are misdirected, incomplete, garbled or contain human error. Proof of posting composition to the Challenge does not constitute proof of delivery.

PRIZES

In the general Creative Writing Challenge, there will be one first place, one second place and one third place winner.

There will be one first place, one second place and one third place winner. Winners will be judged based on the following criteria:

1. Correct completion of the entry form including a link to an active page or blog featuring the composition
2. Receipt of the submission before the deadline
3. Creativity, correct usage of grammar and the inventive integration of all words on our list into a single piece of writing

First, second and third place winners and their blog URLs will appear on the Answers.com Creative Writing Challenge Hall of Fame page and possibly various other locations throughout the Answers.com website. The first prize winner will receive a $100 Amazon.com gift certificate that will be presented by Answers.com via email. The second prize winner will receive a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate.

No substitution or transfer of prizes is permitted by the winners. Prizes are non-returnable and cannot be sold or redeemed for cash. Answers.com reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value. Winners are responsible for payment of all federal, state or other tax liabilities (including income tax) on any prize received.

SCHEDULE

The Creative Writing Challenge ends December 21, 2007. Winners will be notified and posted on answers.com by January 7, 2008.

JUDGING

• Three winners will be selected from all the eligible and relevant entries received.
• A committee of staff members from Answers.com with relevant writing or communications credentials will oversee and judge submissions. Winning entries will be posted in various places throughout Answers.com.
• The Challenge consists of one round. Entries will be accepted through December 21, 2007, and the winners will be notified no later than January 7, 2008, by email. Odds of winning depend on total number of eligible entries received.

WINNERS

All winners will be listed on the Answers.com Creative Writing Challenge Hall of Fame page. A list of the winners can also be supplied after January 7, 2008, by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Answers.com at: Answers.com, attn: Creative Writing Challenge, 237 W. 35th Street, Suite 1001, New York, NY, 10001.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

By entering, entrants agree that Answers.com or its clients shall not bear any liability for, and entrants agree to release, indemnify and hold harmless Answers.com from, any injuries, losses, damages, claims, actions and any liability of any kind resulting from participation. Void where prohibited or restricted by law.
