Om Malik is the editor in chief of GigaOm and covers technology, voice over IP, the technology industry and Web 2.0, including social media advertising. He is also the founder of Giga Omni Media. Malik was a contributing editor for Business 2.0, which he joined as a senior writer in April 2003. He previously was a senior writer for Red Herring where he focused on the telecommunications sector.
Prior to joining Red Herring in July 2000, Malik was a senior editor and part of the founding team of Forbes.com. His work has appeared in numerous publications including The Wall Street Journal, BrandWeek and Crain's New York Business. In 1999, Malik left Forbes.com to work as an investment manager at Hambrecht & Quist Asia Pacific.
His writings have earned him an Excellence in Journalism award from the Society of Professional Journalists, as well as awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors. Malik's first book, Broadbandits: Inside the $750 Billion Telecom Heist, was released in 2003.
