n. 1. a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.
2. Patriot MIM-104 trademark a modern surface-to-air missile, first developed in the 1970s as an antiaircraft weapon and adapted in the 1980s to defend against ballistic missiles as well. It was used extensively in the Persian Gulf War (1991).
