A confidence trick, esp. one which starts with a wallet dropped in front of the victim or 'pigeon'. (1937 —) .
Harney & Cross Sometimes it was the 'pigeon-drop'. A purse or billfold containing a considerable amount of money was dropped. The 'sucker' was allowed to find it right along with a member of the mob (1961). Also pigeon-dropper,
