The vein formed posterior to the mandible by the joining of maxillary and superficial temporal veins. The posterior branch connects with the external jugular vein while the anterior branch enters the internal jugular vein.

A vein formed by union of the temporal veins in front of the ear, running behind the ramus of the mandible through the parotid gland, and uniting with the facial vein. Also called posterior facial vein.
