Founded in 1980, the company makes automated fortune cookie machines that bake, roll, and shape each fortune cookie around one of thousands of paper fortunes. Fortune cookies in the US date back to the San Francisco Gold Rush of 1849, when hardscrabble Chinese prospectors placed messages inside of hard biscuits (instead of traditional Chinese cakes) to exchange at the annual Moon festival. Sci Tech's HV 5000 model can make about 5,000 fortune cookies per hour.
