However, there are other reasons that you should take electives. Electives allow you to take fun classes such as swimming or yoga, which allow you to take a break from sitting in a desk and listening to a lecture. You can sign up for an athletic class to help you learn a new skill or to allow you to practice what you already know. Elective classes also allow you to explore other topics and see what interests you. You may take a pottery class and discover that it is something that you actually like to do. You may also take a computer science class and decide that you like it enough to make it your minor or second major.In order to graduate, you will have to take enough elective classes in order to meet graduation requirements since taking classes for your major and for the general education requirements will not be enough. This high grade can slightly raise your grade point average and you can see a significant increase if you receive a high grade in several classes that are electives.In college, elective classes may not be required but they will provide the extra hours or credits that you will need in order to graduate. You can select classes to take that allow you to discover a new interest or work on a talent or skill that you already discovered. You should also refrain from taking mostly elective classes each semester if you want to graduate on time. Taking elective classes also allows you to boost your grade point average by taking classes that you know you will do well in.Some colleges offer unique classes that can be taken as an elective.
