The deficit for the United States has been a major topic in the news throughout the years. People as a whole are concerned with the spending that is going on in the country. T…here is only one way to eliminate spending that the government does not have and that is to bring in more money, which often means a raise in taxes. This means that based on basic economics that the spending habits of the government will have to change or the people will no longer be able to carry it.A deficit, by basic business definition, is when more money is spent than what is available. This can be viewed as a type of debt or line of credit. The United States deficit is when the country has spent more money than they are able to acquire from taxes, budgets, or other government programs. The deficit is often increased in times where the government would spend more than usual in a single fiscal year. This often occurs during times of war for there is an increased amount of spending on military and products needed for the war, which in turn increases the deficit.It can be confusing to understand why the deficit of the United States is even an issue. The country may be in trillions of dollars in deficit, but it still seems to run and carry on. The problem is that the money has to come from somewhere. This often means government budgets cuts and higher taxes. This means that government jobs are cut back on availability or pay. This also means that budgets for specific government funded benefits will lose some financial backing, which in turn means that the benefits will decrease.The United States deficit has been in effect as long as there has been the official United States. The first chunk of the deficit was acquired during the revolutionary war where the U.S. gained its independence from the British. Overspending and other wars have increased the debt substantially over the years. Wars such as the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and the Afghanistan and Iraq wars have all increased the deficit dramatically. There were slight surpluses after the wars leading up to World War II, but WWII signified the last surplus with a steady increase in the deficit since then.The deficit is the amount of money that exceeds the available funds, so when the budget is over the amount of the incoming funds then the deficit grows. President Reagan increased the deficit because he lowered taxes for the people. While the decrease in taxes was good for the individual, it was not good for the country as a whole because it made the deficit grow. The increased amount of spending through the Bush and Obama administrations increased the deficit dramatically. The government is spending much more money than is coming in through the taxes and other programs.There has been a deficit since the country and the government has been in place, so chances of that changing are not likely. The government has to curb its spending, increase revenue, or do a little bit of both in order to tame the increase in the deficit. This means less government benefits for the citizens, less money for the government workers, and most likely higher taxes. The continual overspending will make the country unsustainable, so without change the country will eventually crumble under the deficit.Foreign countries often lend assistance to an alliance when in need. The U.S. may receive help from another developed country such as China. This debt will need to be paid back and will add to the deficit of the U.S. The U.S. government had a difficult time coming to an agreement on the budget the 2013 fiscal year and that ended up resulting in cuts across the board. The government needs a balanced budget in order to begin working on the major deficit that the country has created.The deficit for the United States has been a major topic in the news over the past few years. For instance, the name can be shortened to U.S. You may also use the abbreviation U.S.A., which is short for the nation's entire name, the United States of America. In these abbreviations, all capital letters are used, with periods after each letter, but no spaces between letters. You may also use the abbreviation, USA, with all capitals but no periods or spaces.While there are a number of options from which to choose when shortening the name of the United States, you should only abbreviate United States in certain circumstances. When "United States" is used as a noun, particularly in formal writing, you should never abbreviate it. Instead, write out "United States." If you want to produce a more dramatic effect, use "United States of America." This same rule applies when using "United States" in formal speech."United States" should, however, be abbreviated when it is used as an adjective or a title. Nothing has compared to the Great Depression that started in 1929. The Great Depression saw unemployment skyrocket, and citizens unable to find the money to even feed their own family. It took several years before the country could pull out of the ashes and begin to rebuild.There are many factors for why the Great Depression started in the United States, and even more for why it lasted as long as it did. One of the major contributing factors is the stock market crash. People had never experienced the lack of support for the stock market. The major businesses that withdrew their support dramatically made the market come crashing down. This stock market crash was just the beginning of the downward spiral that made up the Great Depression.The Great Depression can be considered the perfect storm in the economic world of business. Jobs that had almost always been bulletproof from financial ruin, fell prey. Strong businesses and companies came crashing down, and the general public had nowhere to turn. The overuse of the land had made the soil dried up and dusty. The drought that followed provided the perfect combination of dust and wind storms that would kill anything in its path. Farmers were always able to at least feed their families, but thanks to what was called the dust bowl, there was nothing left of the crops. The stock market crashed, and banks were closing up shop almost overnight. This meant some people lost everything financially, and this often included their job.The Great Depression took several years to come to an end. Roosevelt came into the presidency and created the New Deal. It was a set of programs that was built in order to help stimulate the economy. He also planted trees in the dust bowl area in order to break down some of the hazardous winds that were causing damage to all of the crops. The United States also entered into WWII which helped to build jobs and increase production on all of the products that were required for the war.The Great Depression has been one of the lowest financial points in American History. The decline of the dollar and the bottom falling out of the housing market has created some tough times for the U.S. Nothing has ever compared to the financial devastation that America was going through.
