Section added to a newspaper, particularly the Sunday edition, that enhances the content of the newspaper. Supplements are typically composed in a magazine format and contain fiction and nonfiction articles of a general or family appeal. Some supplements specialize in their content-for example, comic supplements, book supplements, or the broadcast-schedule supplement. Others may be marked "supplement," but are actually printed by an advertiser and inserted in the paper as a form of advertising. Supplements may be locally edited or nationally syndicated, but are never sold separately from the newspapers that carry them. Two examples of nationally syndicated magazine supplements are Family Weekly and Parade, which are sold to and carried by local newspapers throughout the country. The syndications edit and print their supplements, and then imprint each with the masthead of the individual newspapers that will feature them (as per newspaper postal requirements).

The advantages of advertising in a supplement are (1) the longer ad life, due to the fact that people tend to keep something in magazine format longer than the rest of the paper, and (2) the fact that the limitations on the closing dates are not as stringent nor as long in advance as those of most magazines. In addition, advertisers in a syndicated supplement are afforded the capability of reaching a mass audience.

Supplementary angles are pairs of angles whose measures add up to 180 degrees. If the two supplementary angles are adjacent (i.e. have a common vertex and share just one side), their non-shared sides form a line. The supplement of an angle of 135 degrees is an angle of 45 degrees. The supplement of an angle of x degrees is an angle of 180 − x degrees.
