Despite his extremely lengthy and versatile career, Barry remains more identified with his early James Bond soundtracks than anything else he's done. More than any other compilation, this captures the qualities that made those and other Barry scores of the period distinctive: the low twangy electric guitars, the grand, sweeping strings, the haunting, slightly menacing melodies, the slight Swinging London flavor. All but one of the 15 tracks on this CD are from 1963 (the last is from '64); "007" and "From Russia With Love," the only Bond works represented, are still the highlights, but if you like those themes, the other tracks will probably strike your fancy as well. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
