After the demise of former Calgary favorites Fire Engine Red comes 1,000 Sticks, who sound equally as much alternative rock in the vein of the Replacements or Hüsker Dü as it does alongside Steve Earle or Wilco. In 1998, the group, which featured various members of other Calgary rock groups, began rehearsing and performing around the city. In 1998, the band released a demo CD, which received airplay not only in Calgary but nationally as well. The group lost drummer Edward Tiegs, but he was replaced by Chris Lowry. The band also added keyboardist Lorrie Matheson for a fuller, well-rounded sound. In 2002, the group released White Knuckled Midnight Drivers, their debut effort. The group continues to perform around the West Coast of Canada and their hometown, as well. ~ Jason MacNeil, All Music Guide
