1. FC Tatran Prešov is a Slovak professional football club based in the city of Prešov. Tatran Prešov is the oldest football team in Slovakia, founded on 25 May 1898, the club currently participates in the Slovak First League. The "Green and Whites" played 32 seasons in the Czechoslovakian top division. Tatran became the dark horse of Czechoslovakian football in 1960s and 1970s, but never won a title. The greatest league success still remains 2nd place in the 1965 and 1973 seasons and the club also came close in the Czechoslovakian Cup, losing twice in 1966 and 1992 finals.

On 25 May 1898 was played the first official football match at the present territory of Slovakia. Exhibition match between two Budapest clubs Óbudai Tornaegylet Budapest and Budapest Tornaclub. The match took place at a military training ground Kamenec. Match was organized by František Pethe, Prešov physical education founder, gymnastics teacher at the grammar school. Once the match day, 25 May 1898, was established in Prešov first football club in Slovakia - Tom és Eperjes Vivo Egyesület (Hungarian version) ETVE Prešov.
