Tools

In China, Su Sung builds a giant water clock, orrery, and mechanical armillary sphere between this date and 1092. Ten m (35 ft) tall, it is considered the finest mechanical achievement of the time. A constant flow of water turns escapement wheels that are geared to power the clock and orrery (a mechanical representation of the heavens, somewhat like a planetarium), while the armillary sphere is available for use in checking the accuracy of both the clock and orrery by observing the Sun and planets.
