Poland's Wladislaw I Hermann resigns his ducal title after a 23-year reign in an effort to secure peace by supporting the Holy Roman Emperor Heinrich IV. Poisoned by his enemies, he dies at Plonck June 4 at age 58 and is succeeded by his 16-year-old son, who gains the title after a violent struggle with another son and will reign until his death in 1138 as Boleslav III (Wry-mouth).
Hungary's Coloman (Kálmán) I completes his conquest of Dalmatia from the Venetians (see 1097; but see also1124).
Valencia falls to the Almoravid sultan Yusuf ibn Tashufin (see 1099); followers of the late El Cid (Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar) have evacuated the region and found refuge in Castile.
Bohemond of Otranto moves north from Antioch to attack the emir of Sebastea but falls into an ambush, is captured, and will not be released until next year after payment of a ransom (see 1098). Bohemond has visited the Holy Sepulchre at Jerusalem, but only for political reasons (see 1104).
Jerusalem's Baldwin I strips Daimbert of his patriarchal title, drives him out of the city, and confiscates his holdings (see 1100). Daimbert returns to Italy, where he will appeal to Pope Paschal II (see 1107).
