Norway's Magnus III (Magnus Barfot, or Barefoot) invades Ireland but is killed in battle. His illegitimate sons Eystein, 14, and Sigurd, 13, will reign jointly (and ably) as Eystein I Magnusson and Sigurd I Magnusson until Eystein's death in 1122 (see 1107). (Their illegitimate younger brother, a child of about 4, will reign as Olaf IV Magnusson but will die in 1115.)
Denmark's Erik I Ejegod (Evergood) dies July 10 at age 48 (approximate) after an 8-year reign and will be succeeded beginning next year by the 39-year-old Niels Magnusson, illegitimate son of Svend (Sweyn) Estridsen, who will reign until his murder in 1134.
The Nordic Church becomes an independent diocese with the bishop of Lund in Scania as its head. Scania has long been the richest and most densely populated province of Denmark with more churches than the rest of the Scandinavian countries combined.
