Castile and León's Alfonso VI (Alfonso el bravo) dies at Toledo at age 69 (approximate) after a tumultuous 37-year reign in which he has proclaimed himself "emperor of all Spain" (imperator totius Hispaniae) and (despite disapproval from the Vatican) "emperor of the three religions," protecting Muslims and Jews throughout his realms. He is succeeded by his daughter Urraca, a widow of 27 with two infant sons, who will reign until 1126, warring for 13 of those 19 years against her coarse second husband, Alfonso I of Aragon.
