political events

Hungary's Coloman I (Kónyves Kálman) dies February 3 at age 44 after a reign of nearly 21 years in which he has consolidated the feudal system in his realm, whose borders he has expanded (partly by overthrowing the king of Croatia) while gaining renown for having permitted Geoffrey of Bouillon and his crusaders to cross Hungarian territory. He has denied the existence of witches and put through a law forbidding trials of women accused of witchcraft. Coloman is succeeded by Stefan II, who will reign until 1131 (see 1124).

Ramon Berenguer III, count of Barcelona, sails to Rome in an effort to gain support from the Italian states and a license from Pope Paschal II for his crusade against the Moors in Spain, but his mission will achieve only limited success.
