Norway's Eystein I Magnusson dies August 22 at age 33 (approximate) after a 19-year reign, leaving his brother to reign alone as Sigurd I Magnusson (see Harald, 1128).

The emperor John II Comnenus and his Byzantine hordes exterminate the Patzinak Turks in the Balkans, but John's refusal to renew exclusive trading privileges granted to Venice by the late Alexius Comnenus in 1082 precipitates a 4-year war.

The Georgian king David II captures Tiflis and restores it as the capital (see 458). Often captured and sacked, the city was controlled by the Persians in the 6th century, the Byzantines and Arabs in the 7th (see 1174; Mongols, 1234).

The Holy Roman Emperor Heinrich V renounces the right of investiture with ring and crozier in the September 23 Concordat of Worms (see 1112); he recognizes freedom of election of the clergy and promises to restore all Church property.

Sic et non ("yes and no") by French scholar Peter Abelard [b. Le Pallet, Brittany, France, 1079, d. Chalon-sur-Saône, April 21, 1142] is a collection of contradictory statements found in the writings of various authorities, demonstrating that authority is of no use and that reason and logic are needed to solve problems.
