Abbé Suger [b. Flanders or St. Denis, France, or Toury, France, c. 1081, d. St. Denis, January 31, 1151] starts construction on the first portion of the Abbey Church of St. Denis (St. Denis, France), which will become the first Gothic church with flying buttresses.
