The Ghurid chief Ala-ud-Din sacks and burns the city in revenge, terminating the Ghaznavid clan's rule, but Ala-ud-Din will not be able to retain control of Ghazna (see 1173).

Theisir (al-Taysir) by the Arab physician Avenzoar (Abu Mervan ibn Zuh) describes otitis media, paralysis of the pharnyx, and pericarditis in a work based on personal experience, independent observation, and sound judgment. Opposing purgatives, Avenzoar strongly advocates venesection (phlebotomy).
