Geoffrey of Anjou dies September 7 at age 38. He has been called "Plantagenet" for his habit of wearing a sprig of broom (genet) in his cap, and is succeeded as count of Anjou by his son Henry Plantagenet, now 18, to whom he gave the duchy of Normandy last year.

Ghazni is burned by the Shansabani Persian princes of Ghur (Ghor), who will drive the Yamini to the Punjab and will depose them in 1186.
