Biography

12 Stones were formed in the small New Orleans suburb of Mandeville, LA. The bandmembers were mostly still in their teens when they formed the lineup of vocalist Paul McCoy, bassist Kevin Dorr, guitarist Eric Weaver, and drummer Aaron Gainer. After performing no more than 12 live performances, they took their demo to New York City and performed at an industry showcase. The band ended up signing to Wind-Up Records to record its debut album with producer Jay Baumgardner. The album saw release in 2002, less than two years after the formation of the group. More success came to the band in 2003, when McCoy duetted with Evanescence on "Bring Me to Life," which became a smash hit and was included on the Daredevil soundtrack as well as Evanescence's debut album, Fallen. 12 Stones released their second album, Potter's Field, which featured a heavier, more guitar-driven sound than their debut, in 2004. After taking a break from music to spend time with their families, the bandmembers reconvened to make their third album. Inspired by the effects of Hurricane Katrina on their hometown, 12 Stones recorded Anthem for the Underdog in Memphis, TN with Justin Rimer and Skidd Mills during the better part of 2006, and the album was released in 2007. During the pre-production for their fourth album, Dorr returned to the fold -- he had been gone for five years beginning in 2004 -- and 12 Stones added Mike McManus as their new drummer. The first fruits of this new lineup appeared as the summer 2010 EP The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday. ~ Bradley Torreano, Rovi

History

The four band members met in Mandeville, Louisiana, a small suburb north of New Orleans, and within 15 months were signed to a record deal with Wind-up Records. Lead vocalist Paul McCoy was previously featured in the Evanescence single "Bring Me to Life", which later went on to win a Grammy.[citation needed]

"Shadows" from Potter's Field was used in a trailer for the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. "Photograph" (also from Potter's Field) appeared on the 2005 Elektra film soundtrack. "My Life" from their self-titled album was featured on the soundtrack of The Scorpion King in 2002. "Broken" (also from the self-titled album) served as the official theme song for WWE's Judgment Day pay-per-view in May 2002 and "Home" (also from the self-titled album) was the song used for the WWE Desire video for Kurt Angle. The band also recorded the song "Let Go" exclusively for the Daredevil movie soundtrack. Songs "Running out of Pain" and "Back Up" were used on Cheating Death, Stealing Life - The Eddie Guerrero Story.

In November 2009, the band recorded their fourth studio album, with producer David Bendeth. "We Are One", the first single from the new album, was released on April 6.[1] The song Premiered on noisecreep[2] on March 29, 2010, the very same day being leaked to radio by WBSX (97.9X) in Wilkes-Barre, PA. It was later announced that, despite the band's original intent to record a full-length album, they would instead be releasing an EP titled The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday which would feature the single "We Are One". The reasoning behind why the band only released an EP even though they had recorded a complete album's worth of material was never fully explored or explained.

Recently, "We Are One" was used by WWE as the theme song for the renegade faction formed by the NXT first season graduates known as The Nexus. The song also was used as the opening to each ACC Network telecast of the 2011 ACC men's basketball tournament.[3] The Washington Capitals NHL hockey team also uses the song in the 2010-2011 season video played at the start of their home games in the Verizon Center.

On August 24, 2010, the band announced that they were leaving Wind-Up after nine years, stating “We felt it was time for a change. We have a vision for this band that we feel is best pursued elsewhere.” [4] On December 30, 2010, 12 Stones announced via Twitter and Facebook that they planned to release a new, full-length album in 2011.

12 Stones then signed a record deal with Executive Music Group. The band released their new album Beneath The Scars on May 22, 2012 to digital retailers, however it wasn't released to stores until May 29, 2012. [5]. International release is yet to be determined but both physical and Digital copies are available to be downloaded worldwide on the bands website, http://www.12Stones.com.
