The 125th IOC Session will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina in September 2013. The International Olympic Committee will meet to elect the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympics on September 7. They will also elect a new IOC President and will consider adding new sports for the 2020 Olympics. The IOC Session will be held at the Buenos Aires Hilton. [1]

Bidders

The IOC received two bids to host the 125th IOC Session. Buenos Aires and Kuala Lumpur made bids. Buenos Aires was elected host city at the 122nd IOC Session in Vancouver which took place prior to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.[2]

2020 Olympic host city election

The members of the IOC will elect the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympics on September 7, 2013. On May 23, 2012, the IOC decided which cities would become candidates. [3]

Candidate Cities

There are three Candidate Cities for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Of the three candidates, Tokyo had previously hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1964. The other two candidates have all made bids in the past.

In order of drawing lots, the Candidate Cities are:

Baku and Doha made bids but failed to become candidates. Rome submitted a bid but withdrew it shortly before applicant files were due.

IOC Presidential election

The IOC will elect a new IOC President at this session. The current president is Jacques Rogge. His term ends in 2013 and is term limited. He has served as President since 2001 after he was elected at the 112th IOC Session in Moscow. Rogge is the eighth IOC President.

While no one has confirmed that they are running for President of the IOC, the following names have been mentioned as potential candidates: [4]

New Sports

The IOC will consider adding new sports to the Summer Olympics at this IOC Session. The sports being considered are baseball, karate, roller sports, softball, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding, wushu, surfing and beach soccer. There will be a maximum of 28 sports at the 2020 Summer Olympics.[5]
